| Dear Friend, |
| x |
| We are writing to you
to let you know that our business went well, and we received our
money. We arrived here today, and the day after tomorrow my wife and
I leave for San Francisco. I’m very sorry Dan, that we could not
bring the brand R with us, but I hope you will be able to fetch
enough to pay you for the inconvenience. |
| x |
| We want you to take
care of Davy and his wife and see that they don’t suffer in any
way. And be kind to the old [spaniel] and [give him] pieces of meat
once in a while and get rid of
the black [dog]. I don’t want to see Cholila ever again, but I
will think of you and all our friends often, and we want to assure
you of our good wishes. |
| x |
| Attached you will find
the song “Sam Bass,” which I promised to write down for you. As
I have no more news, I will end by begging that you remember us to
all our friends, without forgetting Juan and [Wenceslao], giving
them our regards and good wishes, keeping a large portion for
yourself and family. |
| x |
| Remaining as always
your true friend, |
| x |
