Train Robbery Frustrated
Supposed Members of Harvey Logan’s Gang Met by Officers
x

Havre, Mont., Aug. 30. – It has been learned here that an attempt was made Friday night to hold up the west-bound flier of the Great Northern, near Malta. The effort was frustrated by Detectives riding on the engine.

Three suspicious looking characters, believed to be members of the gang of Harvey Logan, alias “Kid” Curry, boarded the train, and two of them started to climb over the tender, when they were discovered by the officers, who covered them with guns and ordered them off. They promptly slid off the side of the tender, disappearing into the darkness.

For three days the train crews, mall crews, and express agents on passenger trains between Glasgow and Havre have been heavily armed, and a score of detectives have been riding up and down the line.

Several days ago the company received what they considered reliable information that Harvey Logan was back in Montana and would attempt a hold-up.

Logan escaped from the county jail at Knoxville, Tenn., June 27 last, while awaiting removal to the Columbus, Ohio Penitentiary.
