St. Louis, Mo., Nov. 7—Laura Bullion,
the woman who was arrested yesterday with forged
notes of the National bank of Helena in her
possession, was identified in the office of Chief of
Detectives Desmond by George Distel (?) a merchant
of Mascoutah, Ill., who formerly knew the woman when
she lived in Texas. Following this, Laura Bullion
said to Chief Desmond:
“I Have known the prisoner whom you
call Longbaugh since the latter part of last April.
It was in Fort Worth, Tex., that I first met him.
Since that time we have lived in various cities, and
have gone under different names in every city that
we visited.”
Before that she lived with Bill
Carver, a train robber, who she said, was killed in
Sonora, Mexico, April 2nd last. Laura
Bullion went to Fort Worth from her home in Douglas,
Arizona to meet Longbaugh, who was introduced to her
by Bill Cheney, another member of the gang. She
added:
“He had plenty of money and I never
asked him any questions as to where got it. He gave
men the money that was in my possession when I was
arrested. I don’t know where he got it. I don’t know
anything about that Wagner robbery.”
Carver was at one time a member of
the famous Butch Cassidy gang in eastern Utah. The
above exposure indicates that the Robbers Roost gang
held up the train at Wagner, Mont., when national
bank notes were secured. |
