Abandoned the chase. |

| The posse of
officers under Marshal Hadsell, which has been
following the trail of the Union Pacific train
robbers for three weeks, has given up the chase and
returned to Casper Saturday. The trail was lost west
of Thermopolis in the Big Horn Basin. It is believed
the robbers went into the Old Creek range of
mountains leading to the Wind River range. It is
their opinion that the only way to capture the
robbers is by a still hunt conducted by men
thoroughly acquainted with the country. |

Sheriff McDaniel's posse
and a posse from Rock Springs and Green River,
who patrolled the country between Wamsutter and
Point of Rocks for a week, were also recalled.
The Rawlins boys got back home early Sunday
morning, their horses, having been loaded on a
freight at Wamsutter.

It is stated that while the
officers have been called off, the search for
the robbers will be continued for an indefinite
period, as several noted man hunters have been
engaged by the railroad and express companies,
and these men will track the robbers to their
death. They will be furnished with plenty of
money and can spend years in the work if
necessary.
When last seen the three
bandits, who were followed for twenty days by
the posse of armed men and state troops, were
headed for Fremont peak in the Wind River
mountains, near which there are numerous secure
hiding places.

| Indian Police
Still on the Trail |
| x |
| The only pursuit
of the train robbers now being made is by a posse
from the Shoshone Indian agency, composed of Indian
police in charge of Deputy Jim Baldwin and a posse
from Lander under Richard Morse, deputy marshal. The
posse are following the trail of some suspicious
characters seen crossing Owl Creek mountains in the
direction of Green River last week. |

| The last report
received was in a letter written to Mr. Wm. Daley by
H. A. Chapman who is at Lander. He says the last
heard of Baldwin’s posse was on the 24th inst. Wind
river is booming and it is impossible for anyone to
cross the stream except on bridges. |
