As one of the Old West's most notorious bank robbers and cattle rustlers, Butch Cassidy spent at least 25 years dodging the law.
This weekend, Cassidy's legend as a sheriff-sidestepping crook, who would scurry deep into the hills to evade capture, will be remembered as part of the 2007 Butch Cassidy Ski Chase and Sundance Kid's Race.
Rather than running from pistol-toting lawmen, those racing in the annual Nordic event will actually be chased by other skiers in hot pursuit of Butch Cassidy Chase greatness. Unlike the Outlaw trail, a snaking, ghostlike path that linked together a series of outlaw hideouts across the West that Cassidy himself helped create, desperado skaters will whip out their smokin' fast skinny skis on the Mountain Village golf course's Wilson Loop Trail, located west and north of the intersection of Adams Ranch Road and Mountain Village Blvd. - Telluride Watch
