Utah Town's Climate a Snowbird Magnet
Not so much an artcle on Cassidy and the gang, but interesting just the same.
ST. GEORGE, Utah -- This is a land of cowboys and the culture of Mormonism. It may be one of the fastest-growing cities in America, yet almost everything about this southern Utah community has an alien feel, starting with the eery, stunning, awe-inspiring landscape. The outlaw Butch Cassidy, a Mormon by birth, grew up here. The red canyons were the backdrop to so many western movies that you expect to see Robert Redford or the ghosts of Roy Rogers and John Wayne. - More at The Vancouver Sun

Searching for Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
Sue Shrems operates the blog Western Americana: History of the American West. Over the weekend she posted a story about one young man's trip on horseback into Butch Cassidy territory in Utah some years back. The post, complete with some excellent photographs, should prove interesting to Cassidy fans.
From the introduction:
Robert L. Foster, who contributes articles to Western Americana Blog, has agreed to share the following story with my readers. Bob and his fourteen year old grandson, Patrick, traveled by horse back into Eastern Utah's remote San Rafael Swell. Afterwards Patrick wrote of this experience. It is an uplifting story of one boy's travel into the unknown, not just the wilderness of Utah, but of overcoming his own limitations. - Read the rest...

Hole in the Wall Gang saddles up for another ride
CHEYENNE - During any other week, the members of the Hole in the Wall Gang are attorneys, actors or historians.
But for seven days every September this group transforms into Old West outlaws. Each year the gang saddles up to ride through Wyoming's original desperado hangouts.
On Monday, they met in Cheyenne to kick off their 30th anniversary ride.
Gang member Jon Chandler of Denver said the original Hole in the Wall Gang was named for its Johnson County hideout. Infamous outlaws like Butch Cassidy, the Sundance Kid and Black Jack Ketchum pastured stolen livestock and found shelter in this Wyoming valley west of Kaycee. - Wyoming Tribune-Eagle

Correction
Fixed the Timeline entry for April 15, 1865 from Andrew Jackson to the correct Andrew Johnson. Thanks to a reader for pointing that out.
