Born August 12, 1931,
William Goldman has made his living as an award-winning screenwriter,
novelist and playwright for nearly fifty years. A published novelist since
1957, Goldman attended Oberlin College in Ohio as well Columbia University
in New York City.
In 1965, Goldman
started his Hollywood career penning the screenplay for Masquerade.
Since then, William
Goldman has won two Oscars for screenwriting; once in 1970 for Butch
Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) and again in 1977 for All The
President’s Men (1976). Currently, Goldman has 29 movie and television
credits to his name, not counting the numerous scripts he doctored. Among
his credits are The Princess Bride, The Ghost and the Darkness, Misery,
Chaplin and Heat. In addition to his Academy Awards, Mr. Goldman has been
the recipient of lifetime achievement awards from the Writers Guild of
America and the Writers Guild of Great Britain.
Goldman is also the
author, and screenwriter for those that made it into film, of several
books including, Adventures in Screenwriting, the sequel, Which Lie Did I
Tell?, Hype and Glory, Marathon Man, Magic and the aforementioned
The
Princess Bride.
Goldman
currently lives in Manhattan and continues his career as a writer of films
and books.
